If I'm not mistaken, Avos had a X-Pipes I available in the Classified Section before the Big Crash.  You might want to inquire as to it's availability.  There isn't much difference between the I and the II.
Good luck either way...................they are great!

If he still has them I would certainly be interested. I haven't figured out how to message another member here yet to inquire.
thanks Brian
I assume you are running Mk II's

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

Hi 58V,
No, I was lucky enough to get a mint set of Mark I's from a Forum member here.  I am THRILLED with them.............just couldn't be happier!  There were very few Mark I's made, so the chances of you finding another slightly used set are pretty slim.  If I had not run across mine I would have bought the newer Mark II's.
Good luck,
Brian

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

Is Mina the only source then for Mark II's. As I can't seem to find them anywhere else and they are over 2K there. Just wondering

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

It's the only source that I know of, as Bill is not set up to manufacture them in high numbers.  If there is another source I'm sure that someone will chime in, but I would be very surprised.

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

Hi Guys LTNS :)

Have a MkI and still going strong close to (I think) 4yrs later.

But you've only answered half the question as 58v also asked about SDM's intake...but everyone either ignored that bit or evaded the question...sure it's not deliberate...lol

Did a search on here and couldn't find much about the intake excepting a thread started by SDM in 2008.

Anyone have any updates as I'm still interested?

Mark

I'd be interested as well as to what happened to the cold air intake kit. Mina sells an open cone filter but this filter seems to draw mostly warm/hot air and I would not recommend it.

This is the only car I have found with a cold air intake. The owner said that it was all custom made:

That is impressive but I think it would suffer more with irradiated heat due to all that metal which should either have a wrap or else be treated.  But think he's gone for aesthetics (read as 'bling') rather than a performance upgrade.  I have a thermal wrap on my cowl and a newly fitted carbon fibre intake (carbon fibre should not heat up in the same way as bare metal).

Mark,

Kinda hate to disappoint you but any system, thermal wrap or not, carbon or not, will eventually reach the same temp as the OEM system. Place an ice cream bar in the oven, one wrappped in CF etc and another just naked....they will both melt. Baked Alaska theory.

You need to take air from outside the engine bay, give it the least exposure possible to all those hot bits and give it the most direct route without those nasty bends into the throttle body...and some RAM effect if possible.

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

Weird then that the BMC Carbon Dynamics intake is used by the new Brawn GP team and they're also used in GT racing and the Le Mans 24hr. Also it uses the same filter technology from the all conquering Audi R8 GT car. (from their blurb but surely would be libelous if untrue?

Last time I looked all of these cars had a better 0-60 time than even the most heavily modified XKR...so one would assume they generate considerably more heat.

Note as it's an enclosed filter and that the cold air is ducted from outside (to a far greater extent that the trad airbox) then I'd have to disagree. If the air going through the filter is cooler it should therefore mantain the casing at a cooler temperature and therefore the knock-on affect should be cooler air.

Was a sod to fit the piping though as space/access is limited (as we know) but as the Apexi filter I had was an improvement on stock so is this an improvement on the Apexi...especially noticeable at when shifting between 70-100 (allegedly officer!) as the car seem to breath far better ;O)

Am taking the car to Hungary in the Summer and since this involves some 'autobhan miles' I'll get the opportunity to see what she can do. :O)

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

I have to say you are totally wrong about the intake being done just for bling, actually quite the opposite. The aluminum polishing was all done when I took the cylinder heads off to have the ported & polished & heavier valve springs fitted. A friend of mine offered to polish everything for a great deal. I have had many intakes including 2 which had the filter under the hood, with them in the hot weather you could feel the power loss when pulling away from a light on a hot day, the only advantage to any system with the filter under the hood is intake roar.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u284/pattyjag/100_1055.jpg
This was an early attempt using an intake pipe from Eurotoys which gave a more direct flow, I then tried using silicone hose   http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u284/pattyjag/100_1719.jpg  this was the next stage. The silicone hose worked ok but when I saw the intake setup that Norman has & found an air meter taht was also 3.5" I opted for all aluminum pipes, the pipe foreward of the airmeter now  matches the intake pipe. The system I have is a true fresh air system as that pipe goes thru an enlarged hole in the inner fender to a large K&N filter. I have an Arden air dam so fresh air comes in thru there as well as the front grille. I think you will find that Bill has given up on a silicone inlet pipe due to costs & lack of intrest. My fresh air intake is a true fresh air system with no restriction all the way to the throttle. If you are interested in cooling your intake temp just install water methanol injection it does make a difference. You can also isolate your cooling system for the supercharger along with a second pump, larger radiator & seperate resevoir. I can watch the charge coolant temp go up under acceleration & the see how quickly it cools back down. The current setup I have now will give me 20psi of boost so quite a bit of heat. I also re routed the hoses on the charge coolers after many conversations with Tony Genalozzi @ Rocketsports .http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u284/pattyjag/brembobrakes014-1.jpg

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

Does anyone have feedback on the Mina Gallary exhaust system? It is about half the price of Bill's and that makes it more in my price range. I need something soon for my 98 XK8.

Re: new member interested in a Macleod exhaust-intake system

How much simpler it would have been (and obviously much more efficient) if the throttle body was located at the front rather than at the rear.  This was the case with my 1995 Corvette and there were at least a few good options for sucking in cooler air from outside of the engine compartment with a much straighter air path.
